Great first blog post, Harry. I'll be back frequently...very frequently. Can't comment much on the Flickers because I've never seen any, but I'm really curious to see some now that they're so readily available. Your comments only make me want to see them more.

Given his personal history, you'd think that Ward would have been weirded out by footage of cars crashing into things--especially into buildings. But Fractured Flickers is rife with them. Whether there's anything Freudian about this, I can't say.

Of course, the Dalt Wisley sketch is one of my personal favorites, an added pleasure being that much of the same stock footage, like the man wrestling with the bulls, was used on an actualy Disnet TV show, "Disneyland Goes to the World's Fair"!

The screengrabs are great, and I never noticed it before, but that *is* a bad set. In the last one, it looks like the book shelf, or at least its contents, are about to topple over Hans and Ursula!

Jay must have had a soft spot for that car crash footage (and also the perennial one of the man catching a cannon ball in his stomach, which has surfaced in cartoon shows as late as the 90s). They showed much of that same footage of destruction in the closing credits of "George of the Jungle." Whatever one's feelings about the show (and I personally felt a bit uncomfortable with Bill Scott doing his Fearless Leader voice for Erich Von Stroheim, or poor Babe Ruth), Jay certainly got a lot of mileage out of that footage.

Apart from the voices and animated openings, another pleasure, for me anyway, is the titles. The way so many of the flickers, especially the commercial spoofs, had crudely appealing lettering or typically Ward-like doodles. I suspect Chris Jenkyns or one of the other Ward storymen probably did a lot of this.
