My seventh-grade class photo made it into the letters section--a highlight of those dark junior-high-school years. I remember having dreams of someday making it down to Southern California to visit the Ackermansion. Sigh. Forry was an inspiration to fans of creativity and imagination everywhere. It was pitch black back there, with rickety stairs, and I was scared to death I'd be known as the man who let Forrest Ackerman fall and break something. Needless to say, he made it safely up and back. I still find it hard to believe I had a brush with one of the legends of the field.
