Photos of Game Three of the 2002 World Series
San Francisco Giants vs. Anaheim Angels
Pacific Bell Park, 10/22/2002
( I forget what the final score was)
You get a lot of pre-game foofaraw for your money at a World Series game, including a dramatic and inspirational flag ceremony:
You also get--in San Francisco, at least--Mr. Tony Bennett, singing two songs (America the Beautiful and guess what else?)...
...and four legendary players (I didn't get any good live pictures of the Willies, but it was a thrill to be in the same ballpark as them)...
..
...and not one but two non-Goodyear Blimps.
Post-season Barry Bonds at-bats have become a binary proposition: Either they intentionally walk him or he gets a home run. We saw both, and both were entertaining in their own way (a man outside the park was selling rubber chickens for Bonds walk situations).
Also present: More apes hung in effigy than I've ever seen in one place:
...and a smattering of Angels fans with ThunderStix, damn them.
Speaking of fans, they provided much of this particular game's entertainment value:
Here's one fan who happens to be, well...me (photo by Fred Paul).
OK, here, at last are some pictures of the game itself. (I didn't get any of the handful of truly exciting moments--I was too busy being excited):
Here's Robin Williams about halfway through the game, looking dejected (as were we all).
Here's Fred at the official MLB post-game party which, I'm sorry to say, didn't get much more exciting than this:
