A few years ago, I bought an offbeat Des Moines newspaper comic starring Charles Schulz&#8217;s <em>Peanuts <\/em>characters, illustrated by a cartoonist named Bob Davenport. Eventually, I <a href=\"http:\/\/www.harrymccracken.com\/blog\/how-do-they-produce-newspapers-in-iowa-charlie-brown\/\">scanned it and put it online<\/a>. Then I heard from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.harrymccracken.com\/blog\/2007\/06\/11\/more-on-the-des-moines-peanuts-artist\/\">relatives of the artist<\/a> who pointed me to <a href=\"http:\/\/homepage.mac.com\/tsmd\/Menu11.html\">more of his work<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And now I&#8217;ve heard from Paul Vandendael, who discovered some murals drawn by Sgt. Bob Davenport in a building in Reims, France in 1945&#8211;a building that was intended to be a hotel, but turned into an apartment building. Searching for information on Davenport, he found my site.<\/p>\n<p>The murals are exuberant, earthy, at least somewhat offensive&#8211;and fun.
