TITLE: CBIX changes
For those of you who wish a full text of the various
changes going on in regards to cbix, please see
bix.business/changes #12.
I’m just going to post what is relevant to the conference.
Starting this weekend, animation/cbix will be taken “off air”.
The new rules are that any conf/cbix must have a moderator
present. Moderators can put their conf/cbix’s “on air”
for cbix events. At all other times, animation/cbix will
be off air.
Also, there is now a 3 hour limit to conf/cbix events.
(Don’t worry, we won’t be burned at the stake for
staying 5 minutes later…..:-)
Ideas for cbix events in animation/cbix will be greatly
appreciated! Just send us mail.
Questions? Please ask.
As for behavior in animation/cbix, just remember to attack
the ideas, not the people. That’s pretty much all we
ask. 🙂

TITLE: Digests…
I’ve been a bit behind in uploading the rec.arts.anime digests to listings
— school, etc. do that — but I’m currently up to about mid-March’s
postings, and they’re ARCed in ‘listings’ as raa001.arc through to raa010.arc.
Since there are quite a number of these files to come, I’ll only bother
mentioning the installation of every fifth digest or so.
Note: While rec.arts.anime deals primarily with Japanese animation, there
are quite a few interesting tidbits on other forms of animation as well.
Check the keywords…

Jim Omura (Jimomura) has resigned his position as Co-Moderator of this
conference. Many thanks to Jim for his hard work here. Running things
without him won’t be easy.

TITLE: New in listings
Dave Mackey has kindly uploaded an updated version of his _Tiny
Toon Adventures_ episode guide; it’s now available in listings
as ttasumry2.txt. It will shortly (as soon as I iron out a
mysterious BIX bug) be joined by Dave’s guide to the _Merrie
Melodies_ syndicated show.

TITLE: new in listings…
“noble.txt” is a transcript of the interview I conducted with Maurice
Noble, Chuck Jones’s designer for many years. Maurice covers his
early work at Disney and the Disney strike, his work on WWII propaganda
cartoons, his work with Jones, modern TV animation, and, perhaps most
importantly, his theories of animation design. This is the entire
interview as published in the current _Animato_ (issue #21), but if
you pick up the issue at a comics shop or order it (see the file for
information) you’ll also get a good selection of Noble artwork, which
copyrights if not technology prevent us from providing here.

TITLE: Noble.txt
Davemackey has brought to my attention some IBM graphics characters
which showed up in the Maurice Noble interview in listings in place
of the “real” open and close quotation marks and em-dashes in the
file. While this shouldn’t affect the coherency of the file, I’ve
replaced that version with a new one that should correct the problem.

TITLE: Now in Listings
Dave Mackey’s nifty filmography of the DePatie-Freleng cartoons
is now available in listings as DFE.TXT. This is information
that isn’t in print anywhere else — thanks, Dave!
Also up in listings is Robert Jenks’s TTITLE80.LZH, a software
package for Amiga computers that’s used to subtitle Japanese
animation or any other foreign films. Many thanks to you, too,
Robert!

TITLE: _Tiny Toon Adventures_ fans, take note:
Steve Edwards (sje) has contributed several files of interest to you
to the listings. TT_SYNOP.TXT and TT_CROLL.TXT, taken together,
provide a useful episode guide to the series, complete with
credits and polots. TT_THEME.TXT provides the lyrics to the
theme song (and clarifies a couple of places where I wasn’t
sure what they were). TT_KACME.TXT is an amusing file that
you should probably download and find out what it is for yourself.
Thanks, Steve!

TITLE: Usenet digests
I’ve just gotten a new feed, so we’ll be getting those digests
of rec.arts.anime, rec.arts.animation, alt.tv.simpsons, and alt.manga
in /listings again.
One minor nit: alt.tv.tiny-toon has undergone a name change:
rec.something or other. Does anyone know the new name?

TITLE: Usenet digests
I’ve noticed that the Usenet digests aren’t quite as popular as they
once were… most notably, the rec.arts.anime and rec.arts.manga
digests aren’t being downloaded at all. I need to know if I should
bother to continue archiving these. If anyone wants me to continue
uploading the archives, please BIXmail me — otherwise, I’ll keep
it to alt.manga, alt.tv.simpsons, alt.tv.tiny-toon and rec.arts.animation
digests.

TITLE: The Coming of Net News
With Usenet news coming around the corner, I figured I’d try to lay a little
groundwork. A few items:
(1) The Usenet digests will no longer be posted to BIX after news becomes
available to BIX. There simply won’t be any point. However, certain items
(FAQs, information archives like episode guides, ftp lists, and so on) will
be updated regularly and available in /listings.
(2) The newsreader in question will be ‘nn’. I’ve had quite a bit of
experience using nn at the intermediate level, so first-time users are
more than welcome to ask me for help.
(3) Keep your eyes on animation/internet to see how this affects members of
the animation conference.

TITLE: Files being resurrected
Over the next few days, there’ll be a flurry of activity in about/listings —
I’m in the process of reinstalling all the files we had to remove when BIX was
suffering storage problems. This includes utilities, text files, and images —
have a look!
Oh yes, it’s almost all in .LZH or .LHA format. If that’s a problem for you,
drop me a line, as I can handle all kinds of different formats.

TITLE: Multimedia link
If you’ve done a ‘show animation’ recently, you’ve noticed that we’ve added
a new topic to the conference. It’s not really a new topic, just one we’ve
sort of hijacked from elsewhere.
The name of the topic is /multimedia, and it’s linked to the multimedia
conference’s /animation topic. Come on over and see what’s going on.

TITLE: CBIX Changes
In an attempt to provide quality rather than merely quantity, we’re
making some changes to our animation CBIX schedule. The CBIX session
tomorrow night, Dec. 21st, at 10pm eastern time will be the last
weekly Tuesday-night one. Starting in January, we’ll be doing monthly
sessions — but ones with themes, guests, and other out-of-the-ordinary
extras that should make them special. First up will be our third
trivia night, with questions, answers, and prizes!
It has been suggested that these events be held on Sunday nights at
9pm eastern time. Any objections to holding them the second Sunday
of each month at that time?
