BIX Animation Conference: wbtoon readme.txt

Hi fellow toon fans. The text file that is included (WBTOONS.TXT)
is a tab delimited database of all the theatrical Warner Brothers
Cartoons released from 1930 to 1987. I have found in to be very
useful in keeping track of my ever increasing collection of cartoons.
Hopefully, some others may get some use out of it.
The file is an export of just the data from my database. You should
use the following table for column headings, field types and lengths.
Before exporting the file, I cleared out the Tape # and Counter #
fields so it could be used right away by you.

Field Name Type Start Length
============== ==== ===== ======
Title Alpha 1 40
Date Released Date 41 8
Tape # Integer 49 6
Counter # Integer 55 6
Director Alpha 61 30
Star 1 Alpha 91 30
Star 2 Alpha 121 30
Star 3 Alpha 151 30
Studio Alpha 181 15

A couple of words of explanation. For the entries in the Director
field, I used the directors full name, not necessarily the name that
appears in the credits of the cartoon (If I wanted to see the cartoons
by Freleng, I don’t care if he calls himself Friz or Ira). The Star 1,
2 and 3 fields only list major recurring characters such as Bugs or
Porky. With few exceptions, one time characters are not listed. Also,
few of the cartoons had more then two major characters, so the Star 3
field is mostly empty. The Studio just lists whether the cartoon was
released as a Looney Tunes or Merrie Melodies cartoon, although there
was little difference between the two.

In building the database, the main source of information was the
book “The Warner Brothers Cartoons” by Will Friedwald and Jerry Beck
(Scarecrow Press 1981). I highly recommend this book, as well as the
illustrated version that was published later.

I would love to hear from you if you like the database, or just if you
have an interest in animation and these great cartoons. Also, please
report any errors that you may find. Drop me a line in the Animation
section of the Comics and Animation Forum, or E-Mail me on Compu-
Serve. Hope you enjoy it…

as well as just being able to
I originally created the database using PARADOX for the purpose
of attempting to collect all of the cartoons released from Warner
Brothers. Although I now have a fairly vast collection, I am still
hovering in the neighborhood of 75% of the total collection.
