Some time in May 2001, I logged onto BIX–my favorite online service of all time–and downloaded the entirety of its animation conference, a section of message boards about cartoons and comics for which I’d been a moderator since 1989. This was easy to do, because BIX was entirely text- and command-line-based, and had a command that let you snag an entire board with one command.
This brought to an end my relationship with a service which had been an important part of my life for over a decade–a place to discuss many of my favorite topics with some of my best friends. I’m a little surprised, but happy, that I copied the conference and managed to hold onto it for all these years.
