Metropolis is perhaps the only town in the midwest that can claim two gigantic statues of burly cartoon characters: on the left, feast your eyes on Big John, the oversized mascot of a local grocery store. (And, my father, theorized, Superman's idiot offspring. On the right is Monty, another gigantic advertising mascot. I can't recall what state we encountered him in, but it may have been Missouri.
