Betty Boop and Hooters

Mark Evanier has the bizarre, disturbing news. When King Features licensed Popeye and Blondie out to slot-machine companies, I wondered what might be next. Now I know.

Let’s hope that Larry Flynt doesn’t have any interest in acquiring the rights to Krazy Kat…

  1. I have to say I’m in the camp that would welcome Betty Boop at my local Hooters – if I had a local Hooters, since the nearest one is in Atlantic City – with open arms. She seems to be a good fit for the “delightfully tacky, yet unrefined” restaurant chain.

Actually, I did have a local Hooters once, in my original hometown of Ocean Township, NJ. I would stop in frequently for lunch when I worked at Comcast. Then, they inexplicably closed down. They reopened as a sports bar under another name but without the clout of the Hooters brand, it closed within a week. It’s now a floor covering store, of all things.
